The new 20.2MW Solar Park constructed by Solarcentury on over 40 hectares of Farm Land near Sudbury, Derbyshire consists of over 75,000 Solar Panels mounted of steel frames, with over 500 miles of cabling which connects photovoltaic arrays to 118 string combiners. These in turn are connected to 9no centralised inverter substations connecting to a DNO Customer Switch room.
Due to our extensive knowledge of Solar PV construction, testing and quality standards, Qintec Electrical Consulting was employed to manage the correct termination of dc field cabling between the photovoltaic arrays and string combiners along with the termination of dc cabling from string combiners to inverters.
Qintec carried out all the QA checks and produced the QA documents including the correct torqueing of terminations and testing of the cabling and photovoltaic arrays in accordance with the DTi Guidance and BS EN 62446:2009 standard for grid connected PV systems using specialist PV test equipment.
The project programme was very condensed due to the impending ROCs cut-off date, but by using imbedded management and efficient use of recourses, we managed to complete the terminations, testing and inspection within four weeks with a dedicated team of up to 12 electricians and leaving two weeks to spare until the project completion date.
