Derby Station

Derby Station

This contract for the major refurbishment of Derby Station included demolition of the 1950's built pre-stressed concrete platform canopies and replacement with new steel framed structures. Associated works included installing new platform buildings, lifts, stairways and surface paving along with all M&E services.

Paul Osborne managed the M&E design and coordinated construction, working closely with main contractor BAM Nuttall and Balfour Beatty Power Networks Limited who carried out the M&E works. The main challenges were working so close to the public and keeping the station and services operational throughout the four phases of construction. The following services were replaced or enhanced during the construction and each provided its own challenges due to the existing integration:

  • Power
  • Lighting
  • Fire Alarms
  • CCTV
  • Public Address System (PA)
  • Emergency telephones
  • Clocks
  • Customer Information System (CIS)
